I wonder if design only looks good to designers.

To the rest of the world, maybe Comic Sans really is fine, maybe hierarchy really doesn’t matter, and maybe having no white space is really okay. Is it just because I’ve been trained to see design in a different light? Is it because I’ve been taught that minimalism, white space, and limited color palettes are good? Sometimes I feel stuck-up and snobbish because I see a poster or website and critique its design, saying how it lacks a visual focal point, the font is too big, and that there are no consistent design elements.

But to people who haven’t been trained in design - do those things make a difference? What is “good design” to the average person?
